Betta smaragdina

Betta smaragdina, often admired for its vibrant greenish-blue coloration, is a labyrinth fish. Unlike many species in the Betta family known for aggression, they exhibit relatively peaceful behavior, though males may display aggression during breeding season. Keeping one male per tank is usually recommended to avoid conflicts. They flourish in heavily planted environments that mimic their natural floodplain habitats. Bettas in general are known for their ability to survive in low-oxygen waters due to their labyrinth organ, which allows them to breathe air directly. Regular water changes and stable conditions are important for their well-being. They accept a range of foods, from high-quality pellets to live or frozen insects. Being part of the bubble-nesting species, Betta smaragdina will often create bubble nests on the water's surface when they've settled.
