Megalodoras uranoscopus

Megalodoras uranoscopus is known for its substantial size and its unique behavior of producing sounds using its swim bladder, which is why it is commonly referred to as the "Talking Catfish." Due to its size and active nature, it requires a spacious aquarium. It's a peaceful species but is best kept with large, docile tank mates to prevent accidental predation. Diet consists largely of crustaceans and plant matter in the wild. In captivity, a varied diet consisting of pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live foods will keep them healthy. Adequate filtration and regular water changes are necessary due to their size and waste production. Megalodoras uranoscopus has armored plates covering the body which provide protection against predators. These fish have significant longevity and can live upwards of 20 years in well-maintained captivity.
